The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter (SCCAS) is dedicated to providing animal rescue, regulation, and humane care to ensure the health, public safety, and welfare of both people and animals in Santa Cruz County. Each year, we rescue and provide safe, temporary shelter, veterinary care, and humane treatment for approximately 7,000 animals that are stray, unwanted, abandoned, mistreated, neglected, or injured. SCCAS offers 24-hour animal rescue services and is the only full-service, open-admission animal shelter in Santa Cruz County. We operate two locations where pet owners can locate and reclaim lost pets or adopt new animal companions. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is a Joint Powers Authority that serves the County of Santa Cruz, the City of Santa Cruz, the City of Scotts Valley, and the City of Watsonville. It is governed by a Board of Directors with representatives from each participating jurisdiction. Our shelters exemplify Santa Cruz County’s commitment to animal welfare and are supported by numerous volunteers and foster families who contribute thousands of hours to assist shelter staff at both locations. We invite you to visit us or consider joining our team as a volunteer.
