Adoption Process

Adoptions are available by appointment seven days a week. To schedule an appointment, please call (310) 379-1264. Open adoption hours are on Thursdays from 5 PM to 7 PM and Sundays from 1 PM to 3 PM at VCA Coast Animal Hospital. It is recommended to call (310) 379-1264 the day before your visit to ensure that a volunteer will be present at these locations. Adoption fees are as follows: for cats up to 6 months of age, the fee is $110.00; for cats between 6 and 12 months of age, the fee is $85.00; for cats older than 1 year, the fee is $60.00. Additionally, cats over 5 years old can be adopted for free by individuals over 60 years old who qualify. The adoption process includes a personal interview with an adoption counselor, ideally involving all family members. An adoption questionnaire must be completed before approval, and a home visit may be required. Adopters must agree to keep the cat(s) indoors unless otherwise approved and are prohibited from declawing.

The Peter Zippi Fund for Animals was established in 1977 by Dr. Alice Villalobos in memory of Peter Zippi, a young man committed to animal care. Since its inception, the fund has successfully adopted out more than 14,000 pets, primarily cats. It is supported by dedicated volunteers who work diligently to assist animals in need. The fund facilitates adoptions for lost and homeless animals and offers spay/neuter vouchers to qualified pet owners.
