Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with the completion of an adoption application. After submitting your application, we will reach out to discuss a specific dog you are interested in. Once you are approved, we will arrange a meeting for you to interact with the dog, either at an adoption event or through a private introduction. In many cases, you may be able to take your new companion home the same day. However, for certain dogs, such as small puppies or those with special needs, we may require a home visit before finalizing the adoption. Alternatively, you may have the option to foster an animal with the intent to adopt, ensuring that the fit is suitable for both you and the dog. We kindly ask for donations to help cover expenses such as spaying/neutering, vaccinations, medical care, food, and supplies. In the event that the adoption does not work out, we have a lifetime return policy for our dogs. The application process is designed to help prevent such situations, so it is crucial that you answer all questions honestly. Not every dog is a perfect match for every situation, so transparency in your application is vital for us to help find the right fit. Please be prepared to make a serious commitment to adopting a dog, whether it is a puppy or an adult. A dog should not be viewed as a novelty or a toy, and the decision to adopt should be carefully considered. Our adoption terms and conditions are as follows: We often receive multiple applications for a single animal. Please understand that we will not disclose the number of other applicants interested in the same dog. It is advisable to schedule your meet and greet as soon as possible. Some applicants may not follow through or may not be approved, so we review all applications to ensure that we find the best home for each rescue. We do not stop accepting applications based on individual interest. Approval of your adoption application does not guarantee that you can adopt the dog. The meet and greet is an opportunity for you to determine if the dog is a good fit for you, as well as for us to assess if the dog is suitable for your family. Representatives from Barks of Love Animal Rescue and Placement Services have the authority to decide the most appropriate family for each dog. The process is not based on a first-come, first-served basis, but rather on finding the best home. If you are approved for adoption after the meet and greet, we can offer various options for bringing the pet home, including placing an adoption hold, fostering to adopt, or adopting under a spay/neuter contract. This means you agree to take the dog unaltered with the understanding that one of our representatives will arrange for the dog to be spayed or neutered within a specified period. Adoption holds will not be offered until we have met you in person. Therefore, we recommend that you refrain from purchasing dog supplies or informing your family about a potential new dog until the adoption process is fully completed. There is always the possibility that someone else may adopt the dog before you, or that you may not be deemed the best fit following the meet and greet or home check. All dogs are microchipped to our organization, and you will be listed as the alternative contact. Our dogs remain under our care for life. Furthermore, any foster family working with Barks of Love Animal Rescue and Placement Services will have priority in adopting the dog they are fostering. If a foster family expresses interest in adopting, they will be given preference. These terms and conditions are established not only to protect our rescue and our dogs but also to safeguard your emotional well-being. We understand that the prospect of adopting a dog is very exciting, but it is essential to adhere to the process and recognize that a dog is not considered yours until an adoption contract has been signed.

Barks of Love Animal Rescue and Placement Services in Fullerton, CA

Barks of Love Animal Rescue and Placement Services is a non-profit organization founded in June 2008 by Ashley Greenspan, originally under the name Second Chances Rescue. Our mission is to reduce the number of animals euthanized in shelters each year by finding them permanent homes. We rescue animals from various situations, primarily from the "Death Row" of local shelters, but also accept pets from owners who can no longer care for them, as well as stray animals found abandoned. Currently, we do not have a kennel facility; all our animals are placed in foster homes where they can receive the love and care they need until they are adopted. As a volunteer-run organization without any paid staff, we rely entirely on volunteers and do not receive government funding. Our financial support comes from adoption fees, fundraising efforts, and donations. To contribute to the reduction of unwanted animals, we emphasize the importance of educating potential pet owners about pet overpopulation and enforce a strict spay/neuter policy for all pets adopted through our organization. All animals are spayed or neutered prior to placement, regardless of their breed. Each dog is rehabilitated, cared for, bathed, vaccinated, microchipped, evaluated by a veterinarian, and treated for any internal or external parasites. We are actively seeking foster homes and welcome anyone who can open their hearts and homes to our animals. All adoption fees directly support the rescue and care of our dogs. Regarding our lack of a physical shelter or facility, we prioritize a strong foster care program that allows dogs to be placed in nurturing environments rather than kennels. This approach helps alleviate the stress and emotional challenges that dogs may face in a shelter setting. Unlike organizations such as the SPCA or Humane Society, we are an independent group operating out of volunteers' homes. We primarily rescue animals from municipal shelters, which often have low adoption rates. Our partnerships with these shelters provide a vital opportunity for many adoptable dogs. Adopting from Barks of Love comes with several advantages: - We visit various shelters to find the specific type of animal you are looking for. - Most of our adoptable animals have lived in foster homes, allowing us to understand their behavior in a home setting. We can provide insights into whether they are housebroken, good with other pets, suitable for children, and their energy levels, helping to ensure a good match for your family. - All our dogs receive veterinary care, including vaccinations, deworming, and spaying/neutering before adoption. While long-term health cannot be guaranteed, we invest in essential healthcare to prepare our dogs for their new homes. - When you adopt from us, your pet comes with nearly $300 in veterinary care already invested, not to mention the invaluable love and attention they receive from their foster families as they transition to their forever homes.
