Adoption Process

All potential fosters and adopters must complete a Google form as the first step in our process. Following this, we will initiate a screening process that includes a telephone, virtual, or in-person interview, which typically involves everyone who will be living with the cats. If the application is approved, individuals will have the option to foster, foster-to-adopt, or adopt. In the case of adoption, a separate adoption agreement must be filled out and signed, and an adoption fee will be required. This fee corresponds to the veterinary expenses incurred for the cat(s), which includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and other related costs. If the individual chooses the foster-to-adopt option, we may consider waiving the adoption fee. Our primary objective is to ensure that cats are placed in homes that are a suitable match for both the cats and the adopters, as well as for all family members and any other pets currently in the household. It is also important to note that fosters and adopters are required to contact us and return the animals to our rescue if they ever feel unable to care for them.

KD Kitties Rescue and Sanctuary in Toano, VA

KD Kitties Rescue & Sanctuary was established and is operated by two former performers from Kings Dominion. Our mission is to protect and advocate for both feral and friendly cats that have lived at the Kings Dominion theme park in Doswell, Virginia. We strive to enhance their lives through sterilization, socialization, fostering, and adoption. Our ongoing care includes feeding and monitoring existing cat colonies, providing veterinary services at local clinics to ensure the cats are healthy and current on vaccinations, and offering a safe environment as we seek permanent homes for them. Additionally, we focus on educating the public about the significance of spaying and neutering pets, the importance of vaccinations, and how to successfully acclimate barn cats to new environments. We also provide guidance on socializing feral cats for indoor living and address medical issues such as FIV and FeLV, explaining their implications for a cat's health and living situation.
