Adoption Process

Thank you for your interest in adopting a BTTR beagle. When you find a dog that catches your attention, please contact us by phone or email for more information and to determine if the dog would be a good fit for your family. If it appears to be a suitable match, we will arrange a meet and greet at our facility in Chesapeake. A staff member will be available to answer your questions and discuss the adoption process in more detail. You will need to complete our online adoption application. Should you decide to proceed with the adoption, we will conduct a "yard check" to ensure your fencing is secure and suitable for a beagle. As we are a fully volunteer-run organization, we require that all adopters reside within a 1.5-hour driving distance of zip code 23322 (Chesapeake, VA) for this check to be performed. All adoptions begin with a trial period to ensure that both the people and the dog are happy with the arrangement. Our adoption fees are $250 for puppies under six months old, $220 for dogs over six months old, and some dogs may qualify for reduced fees, such as senior dogs. The adoption fee includes the following: spaying or neutering, a one-year rabies vaccine, initial puppy vaccines (if applicable), parvo/distemper vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, leptospirosis vaccine, a microchip with pre-paid registration, deworming, heartworm testing (for dogs over six months), heartworm treatment through BTTR (for heartworm positive dogs), and flea/tick and heartworm prevention while the dogs are in our care.
