Adoption Process

Individuals interested in adopting a dog are encouraged to visit and meet the dog, after which they will need to complete an adoption application. If the potential adopters already have a dog, a meet and greet will be arranged to assess compatibility. Should this initial meeting be successful, we will conduct a home check to evaluate the height of the backyard fence or wall, the condition of gates, the overall state of the house, and the interactions among household members. If everything checks out positively, we will place the dog with the foster family with the intention to adopt. This arrangement allows the family a trial period to determine if the dog is a good fit. If it does not work out, even after receiving advice and potential training, the dog can be returned to us. Our adoption fees are $150 for adult dogs and $225 for puppies under six months old. All dogs are spayed or neutered, receive necessary medical care, and are fully vaccinated prior to being available for adoption.

Rescue Pals in Fountain Hills, AZ

Susan Dawson, Maureen Glunz, and I, Christine Schaeken, began walking boarded rescue dogs four years ago while training for the Breast Cancer 3-Day event. Within weeks, friends and family joined us, and our group of volunteers quickly expanded. As we continued our efforts, we became increasingly involved in dog adoptions, leading to the formation of Rescue Pals. The majority of our dogs are strays, primarily found in Fountain Hills, along with occasional owner surrenders. We are New Hope partners with Pinal Animal Care and Control and are in the process of becoming partners with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. Due to space limitations at the boarding facility where most of our dogs are housed, we have a few foster homes that provide care for dogs needing special attention—such as those that are recovering from surgery or undergoing rehabilitation. All of our work is carried out by dedicated volunteers.
