Adoption Process
To adopt a dog through our rescue, interested individuals must complete an application, which can be downloaded from our website. The application gathers information about your circumstances and the type of dog you wish to adopt, including age and temperament. We encourage applications from those who are open to adopting dogs with special physical or behavioral needs, and we do not expect anyone to take on a dog with issues they cannot manage. We regularly receive Boston Terriers in need of new homes, and we also have many individuals and families looking to adopt these dogs through AZBTR. Applications are processed in the order they are received, and as we prepare for new dogs entering our rescue, we strive to match these applications with suitable dogs. However, our primary objective is to ensure that each dog is placed in the most appropriate home based on their unique requirements. If you need to acquire a dog quickly, our rescue may not be the best option for you. However, if you are patient and willing to wait for the right match, you will be an ideal candidate for AZBTR. Finding a Boston Terrier that aligns with your needs may take days, weeks, or even months, but our successful placements demonstrate that these wonderful dogs are worth the wait. We conduct thorough screenings of potential adoptive families, which include interviews, reference checks, and home visits. We prefer homes with fenced yards, as we do not place dogs in situations where they may be chained or allowed to roam freely. During the home visit, we assess any potential hazards that the adopter may not have considered. During the interview process, we take a keen interest in the history of any other pets the applicants have owned. We ask about previous pet losses or euthanasia, as well as the applicant's commitment to their pets over their lifetime. Understanding how long the dog will be left alone each day and in what circumstances is also important. These questions help us gauge the applicant's long-term commitment to the well-being of their pets. We aim for both the adopters and the dogs to be satisfied with the adoption. Therefore, we gather as much information as possible about each dog's history and temperament, including their compatibility with children, other dogs, and cats. The goal is for everyone involved to be happy following the adoption. We take great care in our placements, ensuring that we match the right Boston Terrier with the right family to create a permanent home for the dog. Adopters will sign a Placement Contract agreeing to return the dog to us if they can no longer keep it. The Adoption Fee is determined by the age of the Boston Terrier, as follows: - Up to 12 months: $300 - 1-3 years: $275 - 4-8 years: $250 - 9 years and older: $150 The Adoption Fee covers health and identification services. Additional medical expenses may be discussed with the adopter. We are willing to negotiate lower fees for senior dogs, for those adopting multiple dogs, or for adopters willing to care for a dog with an ongoing health issue. This fee schedule applies to dogs adopted after June 17, 2006.

Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue in Scottsdale, AZ
Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue, Inc. (AZBTR) is a non-profit organization based in Arizona that focuses on rescuing and re-homing unwanted Boston Terriers. The organization is also dedicated to educating dog owners about responsible pet ownership and raising public awareness about the Boston Terrier breed. AZBTR originated as the Rescue Committee of the Valley of the Sun Boston Terrier Club, which was established in 1974 by a group of Boston Terrier enthusiasts and breeders. These responsible breeders recognized their duty not only to enhance and protect the breed but also to assist individual Boston Terriers in need of new homes. As the demand for assistance increased over the years, the operations of the Rescue Committee expanded. This growth led to the establishment of Arizona Boston Terrier Rescue, Inc. as an independent non-profit organization in 2006, with a specific focus on helping dogs find new homes. Currently, AZBTR accepts adoptable Boston Terriers from various circumstances, providing for their medical and behavioral needs before placing them in loving, permanent homes. All rescued dogs are cared for in foster homes throughout Arizona, as the organization does not operate a physical shelter. The majority of the rescue's work is performed by volunteers, many of whom balance their commitments to families and full-time jobs. The costs associated with caring for the Boston Terriers are significant. While an adoption fee is charged for each dog, it often does not cover the total expenses incurred, even for straightforward cases. To address this financial gap, AZBTR organizes fundraising activities throughout the year and relies on donations from Boston Terrier enthusiasts. AZBTR adheres to a strict code of ethics, ensuring that all operations are conducted lawfully and responsibly. This includes a commitment to spaying or neutering every dog before they are placed in a new home. Additionally, AZBTR is a proud member of the Coalition of All Breed Rescue of Arizona.
