Adoption Process

Potential adopters are invited to attend one of our adoption meet and greet events to discover which dogs may be the best match for their family. To proceed with an adoption, you will need to complete an adoption application that includes information from one veterinarian and three personal references for the dog you wish to adopt. After the reference checks are completed, a home visit will be required. For more information about upcoming events, please refer to our event calendar.

Service Areas

We rescue dachshunds and dachshund mixes from high-risk shelters and owner surrenders throughout the United States. Although we are based in the Denver Metro area of Colorado and primarily focus on adoptions within the state, we also permit out-of-state adoptions for families who can meet the dogs in person.

Denver Dachshunds Rescue and Transport is a non-profit organization focused on rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and those surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them. Through the efforts of dedicated volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we rescue hundreds of animals each year, providing them with loving temporary care and helping them find carefully screened, well-matched forever homes across the country. Additionally, we serve as a resource for our community and all pet owners by offering education and information on responsible pet ownership, emphasizing the significance of spaying/neutering, positive behavior training, and proper nutrition.
