Adoption Process

The initial step in the adoption process is to complete an adoption application. This application does not commit you to adopt. You may submit the application online or request one via email. It is important to fill out the application in its entirety, as incomplete applications cannot be processed. After submitting your application, please allow 2 to 3 days for a volunteer to review it. During this period, your veterinary reference will be checked, and a volunteer will assess whether your application is a suitable match for the animal. Applications are not approved on a first-come, first-served basis; instead, we strive to find the best home for each animal. Therefore, even if a pet has received multiple applications, this does not guarantee adoption to any particular home. Once your application is approved, a volunteer will contact you to arrange a time for you to meet the animal or animals you are interested in, provided you are a local adopter. Meetings are scheduled by appointment only, as our animals are housed in foster homes rather than a shelter. This arrangement benefits both the pets and the potential adopters. For out-of-state adoptions, please refer to the additional information provided below if you require shipping details. Adoption Fees Each dog or puppy in our care has an associated adoption fee, which ranges from $50 to $200, depending on the specific pet. This fee includes, but is not limited to, the following: - Basic vaccinations, including an adult 8-in-1 booster for dogs aged six months and older, and age-appropriate puppy shots while in our care. - Multiple deworming treatments for your new dog or puppy. - A heartworm test for dogs of appropriate age. - Treatment and prevention for fleas and ticks, using Frontline or Adams. - Heartworm prevention with Heart Guard for the duration the animal is in our facility, as appropriate for their age. - Spaying or neutering of dogs, if they are old enough (over six months) to be altered before adoption. All adopted animals must be altered, and you will be required to sign a contract to this effect. - A state-required rabies vaccination administered by our veterinarian, as appropriate for their age. Please note that our adoption fees often do not fully cover the costs associated with the care and veterinary work for each animal. We are a privately operated rescue, and we manage all expenses out of pocket, including food, medical care, and daily care for the animals. We appreciate your interest in saving a life. Out-of-State Adoptions and Shipping Information If you are out of state and wish to adopt a puppy or dog, we utilize Delta Pets First for transportation. In cases where Delta flights are unavailable, we may use American Airlines. We handle all flight scheduling and arrangements. Please provide us with your available times and the nearest airport. While weekends can be challenging for booking, they may still be feasible. We do not sedate our puppies for travel and have always ensured their safe arrival, although they may occasionally arrive a little messy. We recommend bringing a towel when you pick them up. Travel Expenses We charge $50 for taking your new pet to the airport, which includes the time spent purchasing the crate, bedding, food, and water dish, as well as preparing your pet for travel. Additionally, we must take your dog or cat to the veterinarian for a required health certificate, which is necessary for airline travel. All our volunteers contribute their time, and this fee helps to offset some of our travel costs, as the airport is approximately one hour away each way, and we typically spend an hour with each puppy or dog during this process. Crate for Shipping Your new puppy or dog will require an airline-safe crate for travel. The costs for the crates vary based on size: - Small Crate - $45 - Medium Crate - $65 - Large Crate - $85 We will line the bottom of the crate with blankets or towels for comfort and to manage any accidents. We also provide a safe toy for the trip, unless two puppies are flying together. The crate will be yours to keep. Health Certificate A health certificate is required for your new pet's travel. We will take them to our veterinarian for an examination, which includes checking their eyes, ears, and hips, as well as listening to their heart and lungs. The cost for this examination is $50, and you will receive the health certificate along with your new puppy or dog, which will include the veterinarian's information. Shipping Costs You are responsible for the shipping costs, which are payable when you pick up your pet at the airport (typically around $175 for most puppies and small dogs). However, if your new puppy must fly with American Airlines, the flight cost must be paid in advance. Payment Information All fees, including the adoption fee, health certificate, crate costs, and travel expenses, are due before your puppy is sent home. We accept payment via PayPal or money orders sent through USPS, UPS, or FedEx. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Service Areas

We operate nationwide, with the majority of our adoptions occurring on the East and West Coasts. However, we are also based in the South and Central United States, where dogs and cats face euthanasia every day.
