For Purrs Sake Feline Rescue Incorporated in Ravenswood, WV

Operation Fancy Free was the only organization dedicated to helping cats in our county since 2013. Its primary mission was trap-neuter-return (TNR), but it also included a rescue, foster, and adoption program. In July 2018, the organization decided to close its foster program and concentrate exclusively on TNR. Several volunteers, including myself, who were primarily involved in the rescue, foster, and adoption efforts wanted to continue providing these services for cats in our community. While we recognize the importance of TNR, we are passionate about assisting existing cats that have suffered from abandonment, neglect, and abuse in finding better lives. Consequently, we decided to separate from Operation Fancy Free, gather a few friends, and establish our own organization dedicated to this aspect of feline welfare in our county.

Adoption process

The adoption process begins when the adopter submits an application. The Foster Program Coordinators (FPCs) conduct an initial screening to ensure the application is complete and to identify any areas that may require clarification. The FPCs will then contact the adopter to confirm receipt of the application and request any additional information needed based on their review. If the adopter expresses a desire to declaw the pet, the FPCs will discuss the reasons for this intent, inform the adopter of the negative consequences of declawing, and present alternatives to this practice. Once the application successfully passes the initial screening, it is forwarded to the foster for further review and reference checks. Approval is required from both an FPC and the foster. We strive to process applications and communicate a decision to the adopter within 24 hours, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
