More about OSO
04/10/26 16:28 Oso is a sweet older adult mixed breed dog, estimated approximately 7 years old, weighing 67 lbs, who is seeking rescue placement through San Jose Animal Care and Services. He was affiliative and tolerated physical examination well, demonstrating a friendly and cooperative demeanor. On physical examination, Oso was noted to be approximately 15â20% overweight, and would benefit from a structured weight loss plan to improve his long-term mobility and overall health. He has evidence of a healed prior tear to the left ear pinna.Orthopedic exam revealed moderate crepitus with extension of both knees, concerning for suspected bilateral stifle arthritis/degenerative joint disease, though he maintains full range of motion in both stifles and hips at this time. He also demonstrates sensitivity/pain on spinal palpation near the thoracolumbar junction. Differential diagnoses for his spinal discomfort include spondylosis deformans, intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), soft tissue/muscular strain, degenerative joint disease of the spine, trauma, or less likely infectious/inflammatory or neoplastic processes. Continued monitoring and veterinary follow-up are recommended. Senior bloodwork is largely normal --> one liver value is slightly high (GGT), the underlying cause is unknown. The dog is on Galliprant for pain while in shelter.Additionally, Oso has several small (~1 cm) soft subcutaneous nodules along his left side, two of which were aspirated and found consistent with lipomas/fatty masses. He also has multiple pinpoint hemorrhagic red nodules near the prepuce, which may represent benign skin growths/vascular lesions, though malignant skin masses cannot be ruled out without further diagnostics/biopsy.Oso is previously altered and has mild to moderate dental calculus, consistent with his estimated age.Oso would benefit from rescue placement with an organization able to provide continued veterinary management of his orthopedic concerns, weight management, and monitoring of his skin masses. Oso is also available for adoption for a family who can commit to routine veterinary care for pain management and monitoring of skin growths. Despite his age-related medical findings, he remains a friendly dog with potential for a good quality of life in an appropriate home or rescue setting.
