More about STRAWBERRY MILK
I am a super sweet pup in need of loving home! I am deaf but I do not let that hold me back - I am full of love and positive energy. I'm young and will need someone that can be patient and provide training. But I will make my people smile every day! Training for a deaf dog can be just as easy as training for a hearing dog. The main difference is that you use hand signals instead of verbal commands. Have a clear hand signal for each action you want the dog to learn. Other tools can come in handy, like a flashlight or laser pointer to grab the dogâs attention.Deaf dogs can be startled, especially when waking up. Work on waking deaf dogs up repeatedly with tasty treats in hand. Soon they'll associate being awakened, even if startled, with something good. If you don't want to startle a sleeping dog, stomp your foot near them or bump the couch or bed they're sleeping on. The vibration often awakens them. Always follow up with a treat!Notes from my foster:`Strawberry Milk is deaf so you have to pull her leash or wiggle your fingers to get her attention. Her deafness has been a positive actually in many ways; she hasnât had any problems really. Itâs good that she doesnât jolt or bark or get scared by any sounds!! Wake her gently by tapping her leg or putting some treats in front of her nose, sheâs always happy to wake up to a human. Very, very smart puppy, learns tricks after just a few times! Sheâs playful and cuddly at the same time. Sheâs trusting, shows you her belly, and snuggles up to you. She loves playing fetch and tug-a-war. She also enjoys a good walk and a good run. Sheâs a very easily pleased puppy! She has no history of aggression, shyness, or biting. Good to have toys or ice cubes for her to teeth on though. Even when I put my hand in her food bowl or pet her while sheâs eating (enthusiastically I might add) she will just wag her tail and scooch until sheâs snuggled against you. She does like jumping at people, but out of excitement. She likes seeing things for herself, I think especially because she canât hear. She also gets scared at night sleeping alone. We kind of suspect pollen allergy. She pees and poops on puppy pads, but weâve also trained her to pee and poop outside. Just give her treats for behaviors you want to encourage, she is very food motivated. She loves peanut butter, fruits, beef tendon, lamb heart, carp bladder, kangaroo jerky, pig ear, ox tail (all of the above bought from Barnes Supply dried dog enrichment foods). She does a lot better at night sleeping on something comfortable, like a fluffy dog bed. Sheâs okay with blowdrying after baths. She's the most intelligent, sweet, loving puppy Iâve met. Sheâs everything you can imagine about the puppy experienceâfrom cuddles to play time to fast tricks to literal puppy eyes. Sheâs so warm and friendly.`
