Adoption fee: $650 Meet Count Chocula Count Chocula is a 7-9 month old, 13 pound Terrier mix who arrived at DPS from the shelter and immediately proved himself to be a total sweetheart. From the moment his foster picked him up, his tail was wagging and his charming little face was ready to win hearts. With expressive puppy dog eyes, floppy ears, a tiny gray beard, and a tuft of hair that gives him the look of a miniature wizard, Count Chocula is equal parts adorable, affectionate, and entertaining. Personality Chocula is a joyful little dog who truly loves being part of the family. He is affectionate, playful, and incredibly devoted to his people. He has a wonderful way of looking into your eyes with complete adoration and delivering the tiniest sweet kisses whenever he gets the chance. He is also wonderfully entertaining. Whether he is proudly performing a trick or bouncing onto the couch with his signature vertical pronk, Chocula has a way of bringing laughter and warmth wherever he goes. Daily Routine Chocula happily adjusts to his person's schedule and enjoys being included in everyday life. His mornings typically begin with cuddles and kisses before heading out for a walk and breakfast. Mealtimes are very important to him and he definitely prefers to be part of the kitchen action when the family gathers. After breakfast he enjoys some playtime with his toys before settling in for a cozy nap nearby while the workday begins. Throughout the day he enjoys short walks, play breaks, and relaxing close to his people. He is perfectly content lounging at his foster’s feet, watching birds through the window, or soaking up a sunny spot on the floor. In the evenings he loves winding down with his family before heading to bed. His favorite sleeping arrangement is in bed with his human, where he usually starts out snuggled close and gradually migrates toward the foot of the bed. His sleeping style is just as adorable as everything else about him. He often snoozes belly up with his paws in the air. Training and Smarts Chocula is a clever little dog who genuinely enjoys learning. He already knows sit, lie down, and spin, and proudly shows off his tricks with confident enthusiasm. It is very clear that he knows when he is doing a great job, especially when treats are involved. Because he is young and eager to please, he will likely continue to learn quickly in a home that enjoys teaching him new things. Playtime Playtime is one of Chocula’s favorite parts of the day. He loves chasing balls, tossing plush toys around, and doing joyful zoomies across the room before bringing the toy back for another round.   Once he gets his energy out, he is perfectly happy curling up nearby for a nap. He has a wonderful balance of playful puppy energy and relaxed companionship.   Walks and Adventures   Walks are a highlight of Chocula’s day. When the leash comes out he gets adorably wiggly while practicing his sit and stay so it can be clipped on.   Once outside he likes to start with some enthusiastic sniffing before settling into a confident walk beside his person. He struts proudly with his tail wagging and ears bouncing, and people passing by often smile at his happy little walk.   He rides well in the car and enjoys going on little adventures with his humans.   Social Life   Chocula is a very social dog who loves meeting new friends. He gets excited when he spots other dogs, people, squirrels, or birds and enjoys watching them closely.   He is especially fascinated by kids and enjoys meeting dogs of all sizes. Because he is still in his enthusiastic puppy stage, he tends to greet other dogs with lots of energy and would do best with canine companions who are comfortable with playful personalities.   House Training and Home Life   Chocula is mostly house trained and prefers to do his business outside when he has regular walks. If the patio door is open he is happy to head out on his own.   Like many young dogs he may chew when bored, so having plenty of appropriate toys helps keep him happy and occupied.   Being Alone   Because he loves being around people, Chocula can feel a little anxious if left completely alone for long stretches. However, he does well when someone else is nearby and continues to make great progress with gentle practice.   A home with another playful dog or a family with kids would likely be a great match, since companionship helps keep him engaged and confident.   His Perfect Home   The ideal home for Count Chocula is one that appreciates his joyful spirit and welcomes a dog who truly wants to be part of the family.
