More about Wyatt

Meet Wyatt This sweet, budding senior was found wandering as a stray in the Carolina heat, tired, and covered in fleas. Thankfully, a kind Samaritan took him in and searched for his family, but sadly, no one ever came forward. We see countless dogs in need of rescue, and can only save them if we have a foster to take them in.  Thanks to our amazing, big-hearted foster Jen, the stars aligned for Wyatt, and we had a foster home ready to take him in. It did not take long for us to learn that this gentle boy is a pretty wonderful pup. Wyatt is sweet, funny, and easygoing, with a laidback personality that makes him a great companion. After a few nervous accidents during his first days, he quickly settled in and is now fully housetrained with a consistent routine. He is also crate-trained and does well in his crate when his foster mom is away for a few hours, though he will likely be trustworthy left out once comfortable in a new home. In his foster home, Wyatt gets along well with dogs and cats and loves people. He’s especially affectionate with his humans and enjoys attention and companionship. He bonds closely with “his person,” and has learned that attention can be shared with the pack. Wyatt enjoys car rides and going for walks, happily following his nose along the way. He walks well on leash and likes to get out and about. He has bursts of activity and will happily trot around the yard or follow the other dogs when they get playful, but he’s just as happy curling up for a long nap nearby.  Food is definitely one of Wyatt’s favorite things. He’s very treat-motivated and always excited for mealtime. Because he eats quickly and loves snacks, he’s currently working on shedding a few extra pounds.  Medically, Wyatt has limited vision in one eye from an old injury, but it doesn’t bother him, and he navigates his surroundings just fine. Like many senior dogs, he takes supplements to support his health. We did an ultrasound on him to make sure he had no internal issues, and thankfully, there were no major concerns. He currently takes medication for gallbladder “sludge,” likely related to poor nutrition in the past, along with liver and joint supplements we give to most of our seniors. Wyatt has great mobility overall, but can have a little trouble jumping onto higher surfaces. He can jump up on the couch no problem, but when getting into an SUV, he may need a boost, especially while he’s carrying a bit of extra weight. Wyatt needs to trim down, so watching his calories and regular walks will be an important part of his care. While he has playful moments, Wyatt spends much of his day enjoying long naps and relaxing near his people. At night, he sleeps peacefully in a cozy dog bed next to his foster mom’s bed. FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 3/11/26 " Wyatt is amazing. He’s great on leash, not a big puller. I think he would love a home with a flexible work schedule. He is crated at my house because of all the dogs and fosters we have coming in and out, but I think he would be just fine home alone (not destructive) and not crated. He doesn’t really do toys but likes chewing on Benebones, loves just lying in the sun, and going for walks. Sleeps all night on “his”bed right next to me on the floor at night. He will love someone being there so much. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be with you and will lie down behind you when you are in the kitchen cooking. He isn’t intrusive or bothersome; he’s just very connected. I think he will do great with another dog who matches his energy, small or large, but chill."  This sweet boy is such a resilient, affectionate soul who clearly hasn’t had an easy life, and he needs a loving home to live out his golden years Wyatt needs a FOSTER home to bring him to town.
