Meet Carmello, the medium sized terrier mix. Carmello came to the Shelter after his previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him due to unstable housing. He has a history of being a bit reserved with new people but warms up. He has been around children of all ages and did well. Carmello has history living with a cat and another dog who is a bit bigger. Carmello has met dogs at the Shelter and prefers to do a sniff greeting, then move away to do his own thing. A home with another dog may be a fit provided there is a meet and greet at the Shelter prior to adoption. It seems a more mellow canine personality would be a match for Carmello. Carmello is still perfecting potty training and will need an adopter that is patient with him in the transition while he learns. Carmello was described as friendly, loves car rides, baths and treats !Carmello is available for preadoption at this time – come in, fall in love and you can take him home after his neuter surgery!The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Carmello's adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
