More about Amos

Are you looking for a new best friend? Look no further! Meet Amos, a 5-6yo, 21lb. possible basset hound/beagle mix. Amos had a tough time in his life prior to coming to Lil Rascals, finding himself homeless and roaming around a Georgia nieghborhood until someone finally cared enough to help him. As a result, he is a little anxious and shy. But that doesn’t stop this short-legged boy from wanting to be your best friend. He loves to meet new people and enjoys going places with his humans - whether on walks or in the car. He hasn’t spent much time around children, but in his limited interactions he’s done fine. Amos loves to cuddle, sleep and spend time with you and your dog! He would do best in a home with another dog, as he looks to other dogs for comfort and cues. He is currently in a home with a cat and is mostly uninterested although he has shown some friendly curiosity. He is not quite housebroken but he is trying his best to figure it out and his accidents are happening less frequently. He is more likely to go potty in a fenced-in yard with someone outside with him than on a walk, but he walks well on a leash and enjoys going on adventures. He is a scent hound, so he likes to stop and sniff everything while walking. Amos responds well to positive reinforcement and needs a home that can show him a lot of patience and love. Loud noises (including squeaky toy) and voices scare him, and he may bark when he hears a noise he’s unsure of. Although he’s a hound, we’ve only heard him bark, not howl. He is very food motivated but hasn’t shown any signs of food aggression. He is overly excited when it comes to mealtime and cries and jumps. We’ve been working on training him to be calm around these times so he doesn’t exhaust himself with excitement, but Amos is still a work in progress. He will go in the crate with a treat but prefers not to be in crate. He sleeps well through the night in bed with you or on a dog bed in your room. He loves cuddling in bed and he curls himself up into a little ball. Amos is a great little guy who is looking for a loving and patient home. He is social, friendly, and oh so sweet. He’d love to be your new best friend! Amos is heartworm positive at this time, and is on the slow kill protocol, which we can explain that process to any interested applicant. She can enjoy regular activities. Heart worm disease is contracted from an infected mosquito and can not be transmitted to another dog.
