Meet Alf! This 11-month-old Boxer mix shares a name with the famous TV alien, and just like his sitcom counterpart, he’s all about his people. At around 46 pounds, Alf is equal parts goofy best friend, cuddle bug, and enthusiastic social director for every dog he meets. When Alf first arrived at a local animal shelter, the world felt big and overwhelming. Since settling into foster care, though, he’s transformed into a joyful, affectionate pup who greets life with full-body tail wags and an “everyone is my friend” attitude. He’s learned that humans can be pretty wonderful, and now he loves hard. Alf is almost fully house trained and crate trained, though he has recently shown that being alone for long periods is tough for him. This sweet boy thrives most when he has company, whether that’s a human working from home, someone with a flexible schedule, or a canine sibling to keep him company while his family is away. Another dog in the home would truly be Alf’s dream scenario because he absolutely LOVES other dogs. He’s playful, social, and respectful of different play styles, happily adjusting if another pup prefers a calmer vibe. A fenced yard would also be ideal for Alf so he can safely zoom, explore, and burn off some of that young-dog energy. He enjoys walks and does well on leash, although don’t be surprised if your stroll turns into a neighborhood meet-and-greet because Alf is convinced strangers are simply friends he hasn't met yet. This handsome guy is wonderful with everyone he meets, including children, dogs, and even cats. He’s been around kids as young as 3 years old and does great, though he’s still a young pup learning that not everyone appreciates an enthusiastic boxer-style hello. Beneath the wiggles and playful energy is a deeply loving dog who wants nothing more than to be part of the family adventure, whether that’s backyard playtime, couch snuggles, or simply following you from room to room like your slightly oversized shadow. Alf may come with a few quirks, but the love he gives in return is the kind that fills a whole house. His adoption fee is $250 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
