Since then, there’s a sadness in her eyes, the kind that comes from loss and confusion, from not understanding why she was spared while others were not. She is incredibly sweet. Gentle in every way. When you pet her, she melts into your hand as if she’s afraid the comfort might disappear. She craves affection - not in a demanding way, but in a hopeful one. She just wants to feel safe again.
