One of our sweetest, misunderstood boys is Nikolaus. When he arrived he was a terrified kitty, but even then we could tell he desperately wanted love. He has come such a long way allowing people to pet and cuddle with him. He has spent days with staff and volunteers learning he is safe and that he has not been forgotten. Today I took him to our cuddle room, he explored and for the first time came to me asking very daintily for affection. I discovered today he has quiet soft purr and squeaks like a rusty door hinge. My heart swells with the pride I feel for the progress he has made on his journey. Nikolaus is still discovering that people are kind and safe and has been turned down at showings, because when initially approached he opens his mouth imitating a hiss with no sound. For those of us who have gotten to know him, we reassure him that we still love him and he quickly snuggles into our embrace. He needs someone patient and understanding, he truly is a wonderful cat, silently waiting from the corner for his forever home.
