SHILOH at a Glance
More about SHILOH
01/16/26Shiloh is an intelligent and alert dog who is highly engaged with his environment and very affiliative with humans. He is tolerant and affectionate with handlers and enjoys interaction once out of the kennel. Shiloh is highly motivated by other dogs and can become fixated or reactive, especially in shelter settings or when passing adjacent dogs, but he is able to calm with structure, distance, and gradual exposure. He would thrive in an experienced home as the only dog, where he can receive consistent guidance, mental stimulation, and positive outlets for his energy.01/12/26 12:33Volunteer notes: ` Shiloh is a dog who appreciates receiving affection from his handler. When in the play yards with a volunteer he is happy to chase after balls and toys (returning item is an opportunity). He knows sit and stay. He has lived with a smaller dog.` 01/04/26What did we do on todayâs adventure:Today was such a fun day! I went on another big adventure! We went to the park, and I even got to walk in the rain. Then I saw a RAINBOWâso beautiful! I sniffed everything and left some very important messages along the way.I still felt a little unsure when people ran past me sometimes, but my friend told me everyone was friendly. We kept a bit of distance, and I did a really good job staying calm. When I saw other doggy friends, I chose to keep some space so I could enjoy my walk peacefully. I got lots of praise from my friend, and that made me so happy! What should potential adopters know about me:Shiloh is a 5-year-old handsome boy with a big heart and a strong bond to his people. Outside the shelter environment, Shiloh shows his best self: he enjoys calm walks, loves attention and settles nicely when given structure and clear guidance. He is a strong dog with generally good leash manners, though he can pull with enthusiasm when something really catches his interestâsomething that improves greatly with structure and treats. Shiloh can be reactive to other dogs and may become overly excitedby fast-moving people, especially if surprised from behind. With space, awareness, and structure on walks, this is very manageable. These behaviors do not define who he is at home or with his trusted people. When given support and predictability, he does very well and prefers a quieter, more structured lifestyle. What truly makes Shiloh stand out is how deeply he connects with his person. He is highly treat-motivated, smart, and eager to listenâhe genuinely wants to do what you ask. With clear communication, he responds beautifully; for example, if told to stay in the back seat of the car, he understands and complies. He makes friends easily when engaged with treats, loves giving kisses, enjoys pets, and takes pride in learning and working alongside his person. Shiloh is affectionate, loyal, and devoted. If you are an experienced dog owner looking for a loving companion and are comfortable managing a strong dog who prefers calm, structure, and guidance, Shiloh could be an incredible fit. He may not be for everyone, but for the right person, he is truly something special.Three words to describe me:Smart, Loving, Devoted12/22/25 16:32 Shiloh has strong barrier aggression while in shelter. He had a bonded chihuahua that a rescue took several weeks ago, but he has had experience with small dogs and would likley do well again. Shiloh has poor kennel presence and this has increased his length of stay. Needs rescue. 12/03/25What did we do on todayâs adventure:Iâm always excited to get out of my small kennel. It has been lonely since Squishy, my bonded furry friend got rescued without me. This time I sensed adventure as I am being fitted with harness! I let many human friends try to adjust my harness and in return got treats! I quickly jumped into the car when the back door opened and although I was nervous and anxious during the ride, I welcomed sunshine and crisp cold air when I arrived at the park! I saw a few squirrels and wanted to give chase but my human told me that they are friends and I left them alone. I was so overwhelmed by the new environment that I nervously reacted when I saw cyclists zooming towards me. Runners jogging towards me made menervous as well as I felt they were going to chase me. My human friend noticed this and helped me get pass my big emotions by distracting me or asking the other humans and dogs to give me plenty of space to pass safely. Other than that, I am an adventurer! I loved going down to the cold streams and licking the fresh dew off the green grass. A couple of human friends who walked pass me commented that I was a very cute dog! I wish I couldâve shown them my skills at catching treats thrown mid air and my powerful snuggles! We completed nearly 5 miles of trail adventures and I wish I could go for more soon. What should potential adopters know about me:Shiloh needs help regulating his big feelings when encountering dogs on leash or fast moving (runners, joggers, cyclists) objects. He would strive with calm environment and patience from his people as he learns to feel safe. He was found as stray with a bonded chihuahua who left the shelter so he would benefit from love, patience and structure from experienced dog owners who is willing to work with him.Three words to describe me:Playful, intense, loving
