04/25/2025Here is Brutus' report card from Tails and Trails!What did we do on today’s adventure: Once my new human friend clipped on theadventure leash, I knew this was going to be a fun day! I jumped into the car right away, eager to get on with our adventure.The car ride was smooth like a belly rub. I just chilled in the back, watching the world zoom by.Then! Oh boy, then we arrived at this magical place. Trees everywhere! And the ground smelled like a million different things! My nose went into overdrive. Sniff, sniff, SNIFF! There were so many exciting messages on every blade of grass and every tree trunk. I just had to read them all.I did five miles of pure sniffing and zooming around the trail. Sometimes I getexcited about squirrels or these mysterious critters that run across the trail and need to investigate, but then I remember to check in with my human to make sure that is ok to do. Afterall, they always seem to have yummy treats in theirpocket.Lots of other humans went by on the path, some running, some walking, some on those two-wheeled things. I didn't bark or anything silly. I just watched them go by; I'm a cool dude like that. In the car ride back, I snoozed a bit dreaming of squirrels and new smells!14/10 - today was awesome!What should potential adopters know about me:Brutus immediately trusted me when I came to pick him up. He seems to get on more with humans than dogs. He didn’t react to other dogs to the trail, but he was definitely interested and trying to pull towards them. He can be a strong puller, so it will take someeffort to manage him on walks, but if you engage him with treats he can develop a really solid “heel”. He will definitely be fixated on the human at the other end of the leash and want to engage with you.He just loves being right next to you for pets and will give you plenty of kisses in return. He’s very calm during car rides and will jump right in for a fun time.Three words to describe me: Goofy, Sweet, Trusting03/10/25 19:18Here are some notes on Brutus from one of his fosters:Brutus is a silly, excitable boy who would make a great adventure buddy! He seeks out back rubs and only wants to be loved by his people. He is a snuggly boy once he settles down and gets familiar with his surroundings.My family took Brutus on a 4-day getaway. He panted anxiously during his first car ride. But by the end of the second day, he had already mastered jumping in, and eagerly awaited each new destination without worry. Some of his favorites were as follows:At the park there was a group playing soccer. When Brutus saw people playing ball games, his face lit up. In a silly, non-aggressive way, he got ready to play. In the hills, Brutus went on a few hikes wearing an Easy Walk harness. He was careful and did not chase after any of the other dogs hiking with their owners nearby. His pull is often medium to strong. He would benefit from additional leash training. He is cautious when stepping over bushes or logs. At the beach, Brutus fearlessly chased his ball into the incoming waves.There were off leash dogs nearby who approached Brutus. He was excited but not reactive. At a cafe, there was a patio where we were able to eat with Brutus on a leash alongside us. As time passed he realxed, sat down, and did not react to the other dogs nearby or the crowded vibe. A ten year old child who Brutus had never met came up and gently pet Brutus on his face and neck. He remained relaxed and happy.At home, we set up two sleeping options for Brutus, a crate and a soft fluffy mat. After having his dinner and turning down the lights, he chose the crate on his own and rested for the night. Several times during the night he came out from the crate to sleep on the mat for a while. He is crate trained, potty trained, and knows basic commands like sit and down. Just during the short period we cared for him, he made progress on the stay command, too. He is a master at fetch and returns the ball at your feet. He was OK being alone in his crate at home for several hours. He did not bark, not even once during his time with us. He likes his toys and plays with them, but does not chew.12/16/24 01:44Doggy Day Out Report:Today I: Met 2 new friends and I rode in a car and I went for a long walk by a lake. I was pretty nervous at first, but my friends went slow for me, which helped a lot. Most of it was very fun, but I also sniffed and saw a big, scary pig – which made me VERY nervous! Thankfully my new friends got us away from the scary thing! I was still nervous, but then my friends gave me a stuffy and everything was sooo much better! I love stuffies!Three Words to Describe Me are: Careful – Gentle -- NervousNotes from My Walker: Brutus is such a sweet, gentyle boy, but he does find the world to be a little scary. He was quite nervous when we first met, but a slow, gentle approach worked well to build his confidence. At the car, he was hesitant to get in, but allowed help. When walking, he was excited to sniff and explore. We noticed that shadows made him nervous, but he would recover quickly. However, once he sensed the boar on the trail, his nervousness was a great help! Because he alerted us to something wrong, we saw the boar well in advance and quickly went the opposite direction! Later on the walk, I offered Brutus a toy and discovered that this boy LOVES stuffies! He walked happily with the toy in his mouth and kept it in the car. Once back at the shelter, he got to keep his new friend. Brutus will do well with a family who will give him time and gentle treatment. He is a sensitive boy and deserves a loving, forever family.10/31/24 10:12Reason animal needs rescue: Brutus is a large male shepherd/pit mix that needs out of the shelter. He is stressed in kennel but once out, he will seek attention from people. Type: BehaviorImpound type: ConfiscateAdditional notes: Brutus would benefit from an adult household that can work on socializing him and getting him use to new environments. Brutus has a hard time in crowded or novel places. He will bond with the human walking him and he may guard that human so we are recommending an adult home.06/25/25 08:14Note from fosterPositives- Very friendly with the owner.Likes cuddles. Loves to play fetch.Potty trained.Crate trained.Doesn't like noise pollutionNegatives which needs attention or proper training -Reactive to other animals especially dogs .Doesn't know how to play with other dogs even though he doesn't intent to hurt them.Scaredy dog.Doesn't bark/growl much so not much warning signs from his side.He would be a perfect fit for a home with at least one women or multiple as he craves love, attention from women & would require experienced adopter to cut his nails . No issues while taking a bath .
