More about Lucky in TN - The Cutest Tripod Cuddle-Bug!
Lucky is a sweet Great Pyrenees mix who came to us after being hit by a car in Tennessee, which resulted in the amputation of her front left leg. But Lucky has adapted beautifully as a tripod and gets around just fine. What she's really mastered, though, is the art of the couch snuggle, and she is looking for someone who will appreciate that skill as much as she does. Lucky is fully housebroken and will walk on a leash if needed, but she's not what you'd call an adventure dog. Her ideal afternoon involves a sunny patch of floor, a soft cushion, and her favorite people nearby. She'll happily sunbathe in the yard and will let you know in no uncertain terms when she's ready to come back inside, because Lucky is chatty. She has a whole vocabulary of barks and sounds she uses to communicate, and she takes her role as guardian of the home very seriously. She takes some time to warm up to new people, so it would be wonderful for her to meet any potential adopters before committing, to give her a chance to get comfortable at her own pace. Once she decides you're her person, though, watch out, because she will make a dramatic, whole-body production of flopping herself onto you and demand every bit of love you have to offer. She also has an adorable habit of lying down while she eats. She has phantom limb pain from her amputation, and takes medication to help with that. Lucky would truly thrive as the only animal in the home, somewhere quiet, where she doesn't have to compete for attention, and has a 5-foot fenced yard. She is especially fond of peanut butter and organ meat ice cube treats. Her absolute dream situation would be a home with someone who works from home or is retired, giving her plenty of time to bond and settle in. Lucky will never guilt you for staying in on a Saturday. She will just curl up beside you and love you fiercely. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes.
