More about Big (Courtesy Post)
Meet Big — A Sweet Soul in Search of Safety, Love, and a Soft Place to Land Big is a sensitive, soulful 4-year-old cat with a big heart and an even bigger desire to be close to his person. He has a healthy appetite and lives for the moment you say, “Sit, Biggie! Sit… GOOD BOY, Big!”, whether it’s for a treat or simply your proud smile. He’s also obsessed with laser pointers and finds rambunctious, kitten-like joy in crinkly toys and chasing anything attached to a string. Big’s Story Our beautiful panther boy was once adopted into a loving home where he bonded instantly and deeply with his adoptive mom. Life was perfect… until a devastating accident changed everything. About a month after adoption, Big’s adoptive dad, who is over 6’4”, accidentally dropped him from that height, and Big landed on his back. He wasn’t physically injured, but emotionally, everything shifted. Big became fearful, especially when his mom left for work, and was too overwhelmed to be around dad, who worked from home. His once-bright spark dimmed, and with heartbreak, his mom made the loving and selfless decision to return him to his foster home so he could heal. Back in foster care, the transition brought on additional stress, and Big began occasionally peeing outside the litter box. While never an everyday occurrence, it clearly worsened on days when he felt anxious or overstimulated. He was thoroughly checked by our trusted vet multiple times, and with a clean bill of health, we came to understand that his litter box issues were behavioral, stress and trauma manifesting in the only ways he knew how. A New Chapter: Wonderful Progress Recently, under the recommendation of his former vet (whom Big adored), he began taking Reconcile, and the transformation has been remarkable. His accidents have decreased from 4–5 episodes per day throughout the house to about once a week, and only in the laundry room where the litter boxes are located, an 80% improvement. Even more heartwarming: • Big is once again hopping onto the bed and couch for hangout and snuggle time. • His sweetness and trust are re-emerging. • And he’s back to doing his adorable “sitting” on command for treats. We are thrilled to see pieces of his joyful, affectionate self returning. What Big Needs • A quiet, calm home with or without other pets (slow, gentle introductions are essential). • A human who is home often, remote or part-time workers are ideal. • Someone patient, experienced, and kind, who can help Big rebuild trust and feel safe again. • A fully indoor lifestyle, with the option for supervised outdoor time. Big has been practicing his confidence on a leash and loves spending time in the cozy catio outside the laundry room, soaking in fresh air and sunshine. Big could spend hours beside you, curled up, stretched out to his full majestic length, or simply existing in the same space. He’s not a lap cat, but he is a deeply loyal companion: tender, communicative, and full of soul. If you’re looking for a meaningful, heart-forward bond with one very special kitty, Big just might be your guy. Big is being cared for by a member of the community.
